The Shallow Water Combat Submersible (SWCS) is a program to replace the excellent but ageing SDV M.VIII Mod-1 SEAL Delivery Vehicle. When it enters service in 2017 it will become the SDV Mk.XI.
The $383m development contract was awarded in 2011 to Teledyne Brown Engineering (against The Columbus Group who built the SDV Mk.VIII Mod-1) with the first test unit delivered in late 2014.
